History of "Ukrrestoration" corporation

    After Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 during which the territory of Ukraine has suffered large destructions, the problem of preservation of city inheritance and formation, in this connection, separate restoration structure was sharply defined. Such cultural centers as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernigiv, Poltava, Sevastopil, Odesa, etc. have been destroyed and damaged. About 2 thousand of most significant historical and architectural memorials, which were in an awful state, it was impossible not to pay attention to it how it was in 30s of XX century. In fact it prejudice the civilized country and did not assist its authority on international scene.
    As consequence of these processes the constant organization, according to the order of Council of Ministers of the USSR from May, 9, 1946, became Trust on construction of monuments and restoration memorials architecture from which originated «Ukrrestoration» corporation. The manager and the chief engineer of the Trust was M.Ljashenko. Obtained in 1947 the name "Budmonument", Trust has been subordinated to Administration in affairs of architecture at Council of Ministers USSR. According to the charter, "Будмонумент" must carry out studying, inspection, fixings, manufacturing of projects and performance of works on preservation and restorations memorials architecture, monuments, carrying out of monumental and decoration works and art decoration of architectonic constructions, which had the big state value. 
    With this purpose at the Trust was organized purpose-built workshops - architectonic - design, restoration-industrial, sculptural, monumental painting, an art stone dressing, modeling, and also 2 shops, sculptural and art cast from cast iron and non-ferrous metals. 
     In the beginning of the activity the effort of restorers directed, mainly, to preservation actions and restoration destroyed during the War memorials. This period last over 20 years. From ruins such architectural ensembles as Kyivan Cave Monastery, Kaments-Podilsk, Trojitsko-Illinsky monastery and Piatnytska churches in Chernigiv, Lutsk castle, Khotyn fortress, Medzhybozha, Lyvadijsky palace in Crimea and others memorials were arisen. Only single constructions with unique painting were restored in that time: Sofiya Kyivska, Andriivska and Kyrylivska churches, the St. Volodymyr Cathedral in Kyiv.
    With expansion of volumes of restoration works «Budmonument» several times changed structure and the name and by 1969 has turned into the Ukrainian purpose-built scientific - restoration industrial administration. Its structure included designer and restoration departments, station on restoration of painting and 6 regional restoration industrial workshops in neighboring of the greatest concentration of architecture: Kyiv, Chernigiv, Lviv, Kamianets-Podilsk, Odesa and Crimea. The administration was headed by B.Ivanov, the chief engineer has been appointed A.Khabinsky.
    At the beginning of 70s scale internal works had started in the temples preserved during post-war time and inaccessible for visitors through internal unavailability. As assistance that was accepted in 1978 the law "About protection and use of historical and cultural memorials" which has allowed to expand a field of activity of restorers not only to separate memorials and ensembles, and site development of historical cities, a landscape, the historical environment. At the end of 70s-at the beginning of 80s it was carried out scale work on restoration of Near and Far caves of Kyivo-Pechersky reserve, Basil temple in Ovruch, the Cathedral of Mather of God Nativity in Kozeltsi, Church of Transfiguration in Velyky Sorochyntsy. 
    The modern approach to memorials of architecture in a landscape surrounding and the historical environment has caused new directions in activity of restorers and assisted creation in 1980 the Ukrainian special scientific - restoration project institute «Ukrproektrestavratsia» which since 1983 headed by Cand.Tech.Sci. A.Antoniuk, with branch in Lviv (director - the candidate of historical sciences I.Mohytych). On the basis of the Lviv branch, in 1991 Lviv regional purpose-built scientific - restoration institute «Ukrzakhidproektrestavratia» is created.
    In 1982 the Ukrainian purpose-built scientific - restoration industrial administration was headed by Cand.Tech.Sci. M.Orlenko who has achieved extension of the system of the scientific - restoration organizations almost in all regional centers of Ukraine; it has created Sumy, Kharkiv, Volynsk, Vinnytsa, Kirovograd workshop. By own forces then it was created industrial bases of 12 restoration organizations.
    At the beginning of 80s the scientific - restoration and industrial base of Association starts to become stronger. During this period in Kyiv in Podil it is appeared beautiful Gostynyi Dvir, Mykola Prytysk and Mykola Naberezhny churches, the Mariinsky palace, the premise of the Supreme Rada and National bank of Ukraine, theatres of opera and ballet in Kyiv and Lviv, the National philarmonic, the "Ukraine" Palace and a lot of others are restored.
    With the purpose of the further improvement of structure of manufacture in 1989 on the basis of Ukrainian special scientific - restoration industrial management Derzhbud USSR and in its structure of «Ukrproektrestavratsia» institute it has been created the special design and restoration association «Ukrrestavratsia», which became corporation in 1992. The main tasks of association were performance research, design, preservation and restoration works on memorials of architecture, which are protected by the state. 
    Feature of this period became recurring people to Belief because of what it was developed, reconstruction, restoration and building up the temples mostly destroyed by the previous ideology or during the war. From ashes and ruins eternal spiritual symbols of Ukrainian people have arisen. They are: Michael’s Golden Domed Monastery, Dormition Cathedral of the Kyivan Cave Monastery, Church of the Nativity of Christ in Podil, in Kyiv and St. Volodymyr's Cathedral in Chersonese. Among interesting objects of restoration in today's revision by the corporation it can be Bessarabsky quarter, Railway station and V.Gorodetsky's house in Bankova in Kyiv, St. George Cathedral in Lviv, the Opera theatre in Odesa, Sviato-Trojitska church in Berestechko in Volyn. 
    Experts of «Ukrrestoration» corporation have reached a high level of restoration works due to its wide experience got for during 60 years of existence of the organization, expansion of purpose-built research and industrial base, preparation and retraining of personnel of restorers. 
    Beginning from 1946 at "zero" level, in difficult conditions of restoration of the delapidated post-war state, «Ukrrestoration» corporation for 60 years of its activity turned into powerful scientific, restoration and design-construction organization and achieved remarkable results.
