Sights of history and culture are a major part of the spiritual property of a people. Their preservation for future generations is not an easy but sacred work. This responsible task on preservation and revival of historic and cultural heritage in Ukraine is performed by “Ukrrestavratsiya” corporation - a leading organization in the state on restoration of sights, which takes a direct part in the recreation of prominent sacred objects of Ukraine. For the time of its existence our corporation with its rich experience, painstaking work and high level of skills has been generally recognized not only in Ukraine but also beyond its bounds.
      The lessons of history testify that the development level of society is in direct dependence on attitude toward the historic and cultural heritage, because “he, who does not know and does not respect the past, has no right for the future”.
      Presently, in Ukraine there are over 130 thousand sights under the state protection: 57206 – of archaeology, 16797 – of architecture and town-planning, 51364 - of history, 5926 – of monumental art, among them over 4 thousands are sights of national value. Two architectural preserve is Sofiya Kyivska and the Kievo-Pecherska Lavra with the ensemble of their buildings – and the historical center of city of Lviv are listed in the world heritage of UNESCO.
      It is generally recognized that the sights of antiquity are a visiting card of any city, state, eventually, this is the face of the whole nation. In fact, exactly in sights it is possible to trace a historical way, passed by this or that country. Unfortunately, everything is subject to time: it destroyed many prominent sights of the past, which fell prey to earthquakes, wars, political regimens. There were times, when crosses were thrown down, temples were destroyed, bells were melt, and together with them the commandments of God disappeared. The faith has disappeared – and there is no God, there is no spirituality.
      Considering only a few decades of unspiritual wandering, we understood that without spirituality there is no welfare, neither in family nor in the state. Beginning from the most ancient times, the mankind has been always interested in its past and future trying to understand the present and determine its place in it, that is why all most valuable things that reached us through ages, we had to preserve in order the best traditions of the past would not depart in obscurity. The question is about the preservation of historical memory. And exactly on us – restorers – this honorable and responsible mission is laid.
      For the years of 60 years of activity the specialists of “Ukrrestavratsiya” corporation restored and returned to life over 1500 sights among which are the world known Sofiya Kyivska, the ensemble of the Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra, Andriivska and Kirilivska churches, the Vladimir cathedral, the Mariinsky palace, the National opera and ballet theater in Kyiv, opera theaters in Odesa, Lviv, Chernivtsi, the fortresses of Kam’yanets-Podil'sky, Khotyn and Sudak, the wooden churches of Drogobych and Zakarpattya and a lot of others.
      The main principle of restorers in the whole world is conservation of objects from subsequent destruction, minimum interference with fundamental principle of a sight that is why our major task – is not to allow the loss of a sight, but renewing or restoring – not to disfigure it, preserving everything for the coming generations.
      However pity to realize it, nowadays the fate of cultural property remains no less tragic, than before. Every fifth sight – is in the emergency or unsatisfactory technical state, and the economic factors of the present time often result in distortion of old buildings by unsuccessful alterations and superstructures, in building on place of the taken down historical objects of new buildings which destroy a scale and character of historical environment. A developed normative and legal, legislative base which would regulate the processes of reconstruction and new building should serve as a counteraction to the commercial mechanism of destruction of historical environment in Ukraine.
      The proclamation of Independence of Ukraine forced us to look at ourselves as a European state and go back to the sources of the Christian idea, remember the sacred objects, destroyed and maimed in the years of „militarized atheism” of the stormy ХХ age. Those buildings which were the landmarks of national history and culture were primarily destroyed.
      Our way to the revival of the lost spirituality was difficult enough, long and thorny. Gradually all of us came to the awareness of the fact that the integral component of a state revival is a spiritual revival. The adopted Government program of recreation of the prominent sights of history and culture actually became the program of spiritual revival of our people, elevation of its national consciousness and culture.
      A peculiar shove to it was the recreation of the monument to the duchess Olga and building of monuments to Yaroslav the Wise and Mikhailo Grushevsky – the founders of the Christianity and national idea of revival, and also to Oles Honchar, who, as well as all Ukrainian intelligentsia, right through life dreamed about the recreation of the Mikhailivsky Zolotoverkhy cathedral.
      Nowadays, Kyiv has again its Archangel Mikhail divine patron, the Divine Mother went back into her House – the Assumption cathedral of the Kievo-Pecherska Lavra, and the cathedral of Saint Vladimir in Khersones has became again the cradle of Christianity. One sings without microphones in philharmonic Society, the old building of the Railway station – is one of the best in Europe, the House with chimeras is now the State residence, and the restored historical buildings of Bessarabsky quarter as many time ago, please the eye of the Kiever.
      The Ukrainian school of restoration, restoration science, regenerated parallel with the revival of our native pearls of orthodoxy. Bringing the Government program into life, we had to reproduce and seize the ancient methods of temple building, set out the projects and secrets of  the masters of that time on the archived materials.
      This period will enter in our history in golden lines, as a mention for our descendants about the force and power of spirit of the Ukrainian people, a source of spirituality in its national cultural heritage for the sake of preserving of which the restorers of corporation will always work.
      Realizing itself an independent state, now we more understood the uniqueness of the cultural achievements and high responsibility for their preserving. That is why with the adoption in 2000 of the new Law of Ukraine „About protection of cultural heritage”, the activity of corporation restorers together with public sight-protection authorities acquires a greater value.
      Restoration is an art, which combined in itself hi-tech methods and most modern technologies, professionalism of a many thousand collective of corporation, which owns to perfection by 123 specialties. Exactly they, our specialists, are the basic capital of „Ukrrestavratsiya”. In difficult economic conditions of formation of independent Ukraine only due to their deep faith, extraordinary devotion to the work and high professionalism, we succeeded to preserve the unique not only in Ukraine but also in territory of all East Europe scientifically restoration technological complex.
      Nowadays, „Ukrrestavratsiya” corporation is a network of scientific and repair-restorations organizations which is ramified all over  Ukraine: institutes „UkrNDIproektrestavratsiya”, „Ukrzahidproekttestavratsiya” and „Ukrproektrestavratsiya”, “Konrest”, state scientifically technological center, enterprises on restoration and recreation of the easel and monumental painting, 13 regional restoration enterprises with their own manufacturing bases and other specialized enterprises, administrations, workshops, the workers of which carry with honor the proud name  of the RESTORER.
      Having the first-class standards of national creative genius and a strong domestic school of specialists-restorers, Ukraine takes a deserving place among a world concord. The convincing estimation of our activity is the „Golden European medal” (in 1987) for preservation and restoration of the Sofiysky National preserve in Kyiv, International prize the „Golden trade mark” (in 2003) and the national „Highest standard” (in 2003), the certificate of accordance to the requirements of international standard of quality of ISO 9001:2000 (in 2005), ranks and awards of members of the corporation collective among which are people’s architects of Ukraine, builders, architects, specialists of different specialties, current members of the Academy of building of Ukraine and the Academy of architecture of Ukraine, candidates of sciences, and others.
      Scientific, project and production potential of restoration industry allows to make optimistic prognoses in relation to realization of primary objective  - that is the preservation and transfer of national cultural heritage to the next generation in accordance with the requirements of world standards, charters. Preservation and revival of sights lasts. On the turn there are the temple of the Baptist of the Kievan Rus, Vladimir duke -  the Tithe church, place of Cossack heroism of Berestechko, the Shevchenko national preserve in Kanev.
      This is one of the pre-conditions of our way to the future.
